Stiperstones Trust
The Monastery has been a Sacred Land Project since 1997. With the help of the Alliance of Religion and
Conservation, a working party helped to remove old dumped vehicles and dig a new pond, as well as plan and
the cloister garden. All the fruits of this co-operation are still with us.
Sacred Land Project
In 2005, Fr Silouan contributed to the Anniversary Celebration programme of the Alliance of Conservation at
Lambeth Palace, in the presence of HRH Prince Philip, founder of ARC, and His Grace the Archbishop of
Canterbury, chaired by Martin Palmer, the General Secretary. Metropolitan Iosif attended, as did Metropolitan
Kalistos of Diokleia and Bishop Basil of Amphipolis. He also attended the ARC Queen’s Jubilee gathering at the
Banqueting House in London in 2002. Although small, the Monastery has continued to contribute to the Sacred
Land initiatives of the Alliance, which includes dialogue with other sacred traditions on ecological and
conservation issues. This work complements and supports the world-wide initiatives of Patriarch Bartholomew in
this important field. As Patriarch of Constantinople, Patriarch Bartholomew is the world’s senior Orthodox
hierarch, and his interfaith ecological conferences have addressed some of the most pressing challenges facing
humanity today. If you are interested in the Sacred Land work of the Monastery, or its interfaith explorations,
